Twitter considers paid membership option

Twitter has been struggling to grow it's audience and turn a profit so it is rolling out surveys to see if creating an option to for paid membership option for businesses and power users which would provide Twitter with a new stream of revenue.

Paying members would get access to an enhanced version of Tweetdeck but there is no indication of charging regular users of the service.

In a statement, the company said: "We regularly conduct user research to gather feedback about people’s Twitter experience and to better inform our product investment decisions, and we're exploring several ways to make Tweetdeck even more valuable for professionals.”

If it goes ahead with premium accounts, Twitter will be competing with companies that have offered enhanced ways to use Twitter for many years such as Hootsuite.
